Also known as Senate Bill 503 (SB 503), Breakfast After the Bell is a law that was passed to change the direction of the school breakfast program by increasing participation, so that students start the day well-nourished and ready to learn. All schools with free and reduced lunch eligibility of 70 percent or greater are mandated to serve breakfast after the start of the school day.

In 2015, Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign selected Three Square Food Bank as one of six organizations to receive a grant through the Social Innovation Fund to implement a proven strategy to ending childhood hunger. CCSD Food Service Department spearheaded the implementation of Breakfast After the Bell in eligible schools, connecting more than 71,000 students enrolled in free and reduced meals with the fuel they need to start their day and succeed. Three Square was able to support these efforts by launching the “Powered by Breakfast” campaign.

This campaign is also in partnership with the Nevada Department of Agriculture and the Governor’s Council on Food Insecurity. It focuses on raising awareness of the school breakfast program among parents and students. To learn more about Breakfast After the Bell, download the SB 503 FAQ sheet
